The body is a complex machine to say the least. Seemingly small things may cause big changes in the body. This is especially true when it comes to sleep.
Even after a full night’s sleep, it is still possible to wake up tired or have trouble starting the day. There may be a number of reasons for this, and many of them are a simple fix.
Sleeping too much
Sometimes what we think is a full night’s sleep is actually too much sleep. This may make you feel just as tired as not getting enough sleep! If a person who usually sleeps 8 hours, sleeping 9 or 10 hours may actually make them feel more tired in the morning, as the body experiences a break in it’s normal rhythms.
Hitting the snooze button
The snooze button may seem like its your friend, but if you think about it – it doesn’t do much. Going back and forth from asleep to awake as you repeatedly hit the snooze in the morning may actually be confusing your body and making you tired, no matter how much sleep you get!
It may be much better to simply set an alarm to wake up at a comfortable time for you – and then actually wake up!
Going to bed at the wrong time
Even if you get a full 8 hours of sleep, you may still be waking up tired if you sleep at the wrong time. Each person has slightly different needs when it comes to the times they fall asleep. For instance, if you are more of a night owl, you may suffer when you wake up at 7am, even if you went to bed early!
Likewise people who tend to wake up early may feel very tired when they go to bed much later than usual. For the most part, you should be falling asleep and waking up at the times that are comfortable for you.
Sometimes and underlying condition may be to blame for waking up tired. This includes issues such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and bruxism, which is the medical term for grinding your teeth in your sleep.
These conditions may make a person sleep poorly, even if they feel like they got a full night’s sleep. Luckily, there are many treatments available to help people manage their symptoms and get better sleep.
Some environmental distractions may also cause you to wake up tired.
For instance, any light in the room, such as a night light or even the light from a T.V. on standby mode, may send the wrong signals to the brain and disrupt your natural sleep cycle. Some sounds that come off and on, such as a refrigerator or central air conditioning, may also disrupt your sleep, even if you don’t wake up. Try to sleep in a dark, silent room.
Sleeping on the wrong bed

Sleeping on an old or uncomfortable mattress may cause you to toss and turn in the night time – even if you aren’t aware of it. Sleeping on the right mattress makes a world of difference.
