In May of 2005, I started Mattress King. My first store was in a less-than-ideal location in Yukon, but seeing as that was all I could afford at the time, I had to find a way to make it work. But I knew in order to grow the company, I would need to expand.
In 2007 I opened up my second store in Lawton, which ended up being the boost we needed to continue our growth. I closed the original Yukon store in 2008 and over the next couple of years I decided to take a risk and expand further, opening the Mattress King Stillwater store in 2009 and our Mattress King South Lawton store in 2010. Shortly after, I found Johnny Ross and we started making our locally famous commercials - which created an excitement and
connection with our local
communities that has only grown since.
In 2016, I brokered a deal for a build to suit property on Reno and Portland - also known as Furniture Row, the holy grail location for a mattress store in Oklahoma. We went on to open our Mattress King Norman store in 2020, which helped us perfect our concept and ensure that all of our locations have that same great atmosphere. These stores have been a huge success and have put us into position to be an even better local brand.
To be honest, being a small local business competing with large national chains is always a challenge - but through our dedication to a truly royal customer experience and the continued support of our fellow Oklahomans, we’ve been able to continue our growth year after year and help more people sleep like kings.
We’ve been able to create a great company culture, where we have very little turnover and 21 total employees who enjoy coming to work everyday and helping their community get a better night’s sleep.
As we continue to grow, our customers - past, present, and future can all expect more great deals, the same premium level of customer experience, and who knows - maybe Johnny and I have a few more commercials up our sleeves.
From myself and every member of the Mattress King team, I am sincerely thankful for your support.
